This re-arranged fixture due to the snow a few weeks ago was played out in conditions almost as bad. The low temperatures along with the wind chill and the rain did not make for an enjoyable game against Dereham’s top of the league challengers. Despite the conditions and the tough opposition the Colts saw the first half of the season out without loosing their undefeated title. Dereham started the game brightly and had the majority of possession in the first half. For the first time this season the Colts seemed to struggle to convert that pressure into goals, with the final balls just not falling right to Dereham sticks. The only goal of the half came from a well executed short corner, which saw injector Georgie Edwards, flick the ball over the Beccles keeper at the near post following a Heather Morgan strike from the top of the D. The Colts stepped up their fight in the Beccles D and improved their final balls in the second half. Centre Forward Pixie Seaman was finally rewarded for all her good movement and pressing, getting a thoroughly deserved goal by throwing herself infront of the Beccles keeper to sweep the ball, one handed, into the back of the goal. Seaman has been agonisingly close to scoring in recent games and her determination and positivity rewarded her with not only a goal but also joint man of the match. The other Ben Burgess man of the match was awarded to centre mid Rachel Lavers, who held up the play when Beccles were on the ball, and spread and supported the play when Dereham were in the possession. Lavers set up the colts final goal after receiving the ball from the right and spreading into wide to Alice Tarry in space on the left wing. Tarry beat her defender and then the Beccles keeper with well directed reverse sweep. Beccles had potential to threaten the Dereham goal on the break, but they rarely got past the strong tackles and clever reading of the game by centre back Rebecca Colman. All of the Colts can go into the Christmas break knowing they’ve played great hockey so far this season and have worked hard and earned every result.
