Dereham IV’s vs UEA III’s

Result 3-0

Dereham started brightly and were soon finding space in the UEA’s circle. Dereham put pressure on the UEA defence but it took 15 minutes until Neola Bush on the wing tapped in a ball after a goal mouth melee. With a goal behind them, the youngsters found more spirit and POM Beth Redpath, playing in midfield for the first time, worked very hard with Courtney Brown. The UEA goalkeeper made some key saves and the game was equally balanced with both teams having opportunities to score.

UEA began to venture into the Dereham circle but the defence, notably Kim Hazell and Fran Leverett, survived a few anxious moments by making solid tackles, when it looked as if the students would level the score, but a few minutes before half time, Dereham added to their lead with a goal by Zoe Leverett from open play.

The play had been clean in the first half, but deteriorated in the second half with both teams committing far too many stick tackles. A few severe words from the umpires helped to settle the play. The play swung from end to end with scoring opportunities coming to both teams. Emma Milton and Hannah Dewing both made their presence known in the centre and with added pressure form Bush and Redpath it was this joint hard work which gave Dereham the edge. With five minutes to go, it was from a short corner, injected by Dewing to Jackie Taylor which sealed the student’s fate, when Taylor’s clean hit found the backboard.

Squad:

Courtney Brown, Neola Bush, Hannah Dewing, Kim Hazell, Fran Leverett, Zoe Leverett, Emma Milton, Beth Redpath, Grace Rollo, Rebecca Smith-Ames, Liz Tarry, Alice Tarry, Hannah Tarry, Jackie Taylor.
