Dereham u13 boys entered their second event of the year at Watton full of confidence and eager to carry on their winning form from Peli's tournament.
First up saw Magpies A team and the coach stressed the need for an early goal to ease the nerves and after only 30 seconds this was duly delivered. Toby Price slotted home from a narrow angle after good work down the left hand side. Magpie's pushed for an equaliser but Adam Burtons ferocious tackling kept them at bay. A second goal (Toby) was added towards the end of the match to seal our first victorys. Next up were Norwich City who had entered an inexperienced team due to other comitments but battled well. Peter 'Hilly' Hill worked tirelessly upfront and on the wing and put in some quality crosses enabling us to run out 2-0 winners(Toby x 2)
Pelicans were dispatched 3-0 with one coming from Toby and two Matt Taylor who excelled in this game. His work on the left kept Peli's pinned into their half and he fully justified his goals. Dereham seemed to be suffering from overconfidence when they took on a Watton/Dragons side... We scored early (Toby) but then let WaGons into the game. Only some superb goal keeping from Michael Hiscock, who produced numerous saves and a goal line clearance from Sam Atkins maintained our 100% clean sheets and we were all mighty relieved when the final hooter went.
Dereham entered the last game knowing only a heavy defeat would deny them their second title of the season. We were up against a skillfull Magpies B team who consisted of their u12 side. Solid defending by Jordan Young and good hold up play by James 'Skiddy' Galley enabled us to take an early lead(Toby) which we had to work hard to maintain in the middle of the match. Toby (bit of a theme here) sealed the match when he broke into their 'D'and let loose a thunderbolt on his reverse side into the top right corner of the goal.
Everybody played out of their skins today but Man of the Tournament goes to Toby with his eight goals and he did pass occasionally!
Job done, trophies received with happy kids and parents, Dereham left as boys u13 Champions.
