The 4's started well and took the lead through Gaz Wilton, playing some excellent hockey, with Jimmy Braybrook, Ant Neave & Baldrick Waters keeping possession well, and linking up with Gaz, leading the line with an economy of movement. Watton had other ideas and using the good pace of their No.10 scored 2 quick goals, which Ian, in goal, had no chance of stopping. Heads went down a little and the visitors went into the interval with another goal taking the score to 1-3. Baldrick who was dazzling his defender all game, then had a moment of madness following the umpire awarding him a free hit, which he thought perhaps should have been punished more severely (having been about the 6th time). For this he was given a green card, from which he questioned the umpire's level, and was then shown a yellow, and then had to watch from the side line, leaving his team one man short. Gaz limped off at the break, having pulled a fat, but looking back perhaps had laid the foundations of what was to follow in the second half, with Watton's defence's never recovering from his presence! Watton quickly added a fourth goal from a break away early in the 2nd half, but a good talking to and a cunning change of formation from skipper Rowe gave Dereham new resolve. The 4's kept their heads up and battled on with their new formation, with Jon Ayres leading the line, up front, and Baldrick now re-united with his team mates. Dereham were now regularly making in-roads into the Watton defence, dominating possession, and earnt several short corners from the strong purposeful runs of Ant Neave, Jon Ayres, Jimmy Braybrook, Andy Rix & Baldrick. A goal from Jon Ayres and 2 from Baldrick completed the fight back, and a highly commendable draw. Both Andy Howarth and Will Longworth had excellent games in the defence. |
