DEREHAM LADIES 1sts-V-Cambridge University 22-11-8 won 4-1

On a freezing afternoon Dereham travelled to Cambridge and won 4-1 to remain second in the Women’s East Premier League by one point with a game in hand.

Dereham attacked from the start and after a number of fruitless attempts Evie Van Poortvliet scored the first after 12 minutes.

Dereham lost two players within 15 minutes, Helen Malcolmson with a wrist injury and the captain Donna Causten.

The rearranged team did not falter and pressed Cambridge continuously. The pressure told and Kath Malvern converted a short corner to make the score 2-0.

After half time Cambridge got a goal back, but this only hardened Dereham’s resolve with two excellent goals from first time touches by Hannah Palmer and new cap Jess Shand.

Dereham’s biggest test will be next week game against Cambridge City who top the league
