UEA 0 – 5 Dereham

Dereham Ladies 1st team made it back to back wins away at UEA with an impressive 5-0 win.

Dereham started the game slowly as UEA came on strong in the first 5 minutes with Dereham shot stopper Jess making several saves, but this took its toll with the Dereham keeper picking up a serious looking injury.

Dereham rallied and broke the deadlock with a counter attack which resulted in Fran Grapes turning away from the UEA defenders and driving strongly and slotting under the advancing keeper! 5 minutes later Fran Grapes turned provider driving down the right and squaring the ball inside for the advancing Pip Howes to sweep home.

2 become 3 soon after when Dereham won a short corner down the left and Nat Grapes stepped up at the top of the D to convert in emphatic style. This was Nat’s final act out pitch as she then replaced the injured Dereham keeper in goal for the rest of the game. Half time came and Dereham went in 3-0 to the good!

The second half flowed end to end with both keepers making saves but Dereham then put the game to bed half way through the half when they converted another short corner! This time Ali Walters at the top slipped the ball to Pip Howes who hit the ball for Lucy Soame to deflect home.

Moments later Dereham swept forward again in a flowing move resulting in Pip Howes shooting at goal and Fran Grapes being in the right place at the right time to tap home at the back post. That was the end of the scoring but Dereham missed several late chances and the Dereham defence held strong and achieved a well deserved clean sheet.
